What this page shows
The DeFi dashboard tracks decentralized finance protocols ranked by Total Value Locked (TVL).
How to read it
Aggregates token deposits across multiple blockchains to show protocol size, category, and chain distribution.
Why traders care
High TVL indicates user trust and capital allocation, though it fluctuates with underlying crypto asset prices and carries smart contract risks.
Common mistakes
- Equating high TVL with absolute protocol safety or zero smart contract vulnerability.
- Ignoring token price volatility when evaluating TVL growth.
Frequently asked questions
What is Total Value Locked (TVL) in DeFi?
TVL measures the total US dollar value of cryptocurrency assets currently deposited in a decentralized finance protocol’s smart contracts for lending, staking, or liquidity pools.
Why does TVL change even when no one withdraws tokens?
Because TVL is reported in USD, a drop in the market price of ETH, SOL, or BTC automatically reduces the dollar TVL even if the exact same number of tokens remain locked.
Does high TVL guarantee that a DeFi protocol is safe?
No. While high TVL reflects strong liquidity and market adoption, smart contract exploits, oracle manipulations, or de-pegging events can still occur.
